Why Apple Released the iPhone Plus Now and How to Choose your Next iPhone

Posted on September 22, 2014

This weekend I spent some quality time with an iPhone 6 Plus and the new iPhone 6. There was one thing that really, really stood out for me over and above the difference in size. The new iPhones are really comfortable.

This, I think, is a concept that few will easily grasp until they’ve actually held an iPhone 6 and compared it with the latest iPhone 5 series or even a 4. The new iPhones just feel so much lighter, hardier and slick.

Understanding this helps us answer several questions:

Why Has Apple Waited So Long to Release a Large iPhone?

With every iteration of the iPhone, Apple has worked hard to improve its core technology. The processor, the battery and the screen. They have a clear goal of getting to the lightest device they possibly can, that remains great to use and really sturdy.

I’m sure that Apple has seen the interest in large phones for years, but decided not to launch one because doing so would compromise their goals of having a light enough device. Basically, they felt that their technology was not sufficiently mature to be able to offer a larger device.

Which iPhone Should I Buy?

This has become a really interesting question. One might actually be really worried about the large size of the iPhone 6 Plus, but Apple has made it very comfortable to use. Overall, the question becomes more one of whether you can comfortably carry it. If that is the case, I believe that you can comfortably use it.

One thing that I did note about the iPhone 6 Plus was that my typing accuracy over a few lines was greater than that of the iPhone 6 and at a faster rate (without having performed any scientific measurement – go ahead and try it yourself.)
