The Future of your Interactive Apple TV

Dan Frommer spotted it during Apple’s Keynote on Wednesday and had the same reflection I did. It’s unusual for Apple to show the future, they tend to concentrate on what they can deliver, but I think they really let the cat out of the bag.

Here it is:

The future of Apple TV is to act as a gaming system with iPod Touches or iPhones as the controller. May be that is the reason the iPod Touch has been so vastly updated compared with the previous 4th generation.

When you look at this image, you see to people playing the same game against each other, but watching it one TV. If they were just playing on their iPod Touches, why the TV? For me it indicates that Apple is thinking of using the Apple TV to enhance games on iOS devices.

That would mean that Apple TV would need to support application downloads, largely games.

I mean, the image was supposed to show off Airplay, but only one device could be displayed on the screen at anyone time; so what’s the point in that when there are two players?

Of course, this is wild speculation, but it’s wild speculation that makes sense for Apple.
