Samsung Reports Amazing Q1 Results – Now Largest Handset Manufacturer

Samsung’s Q1 results show that it has now passed Nokia to become the world’s largest handset manufacturer according to a report in The Verge.

Apple, however, remains the most profitable handset manufacturer. Between then, Apple and Samsung make over half of the world’s smartphones.

At Digital Possibilities we see Samsung being clearly the leading Android vendor over the next 12 months. The only potential cloud on that horizon is what a combined Google-Motorola consolidated hardware-software combination could bring to market.

Increasingly at retail, we expect people will ask for Samsung phones rather than Android phones; with an increasing brand equity for the Korean manufacturer.

Hence now is the time for Samsung to fork Android, integrate deep cloud services, and build a hardware-software platform to lock in its customers and provide them deeper value.

Another vendor that forked Android and is doing well is Amazon. The Verge also reports that Amazon has over half of the Android tablet market.
