Getting Ready for Apple’s Passbook – The time to take advantage is now

Posted on June 11, 2012

At WWDC on Monday, Apple introduced a new application for iPhones called Passbook. This application is revolutionary and stands to change the way in which we make purchases. Businesses, both local and national need to start getting ready.

The Beginning of the End of the Wallet

What Passbook really is is the beginning of the end of the wallet. A mobile phone cannot replace your wallet unless it can replace everything you need in your wallet, including your loyalty cards.

Passbooks allows you to do that. Hence if your business has loyalty cards or gift cards or pre-paid cards, you need to get ready for Passbook. This means that you need to have an application that can be built into the passbook framework.

Mobile Ticketing

Do you issue tickets? These can be event tickets, movie tickets, travel tickets of any description? If so, now’s the time to start considering how try will integrate into passbook. Competing companies will, benefiting from an improved customer experience and improved efficiency as paper is eliminated and ticket scalping becomes increasingly difficult.

Location Based Services

Passbook also allows location based services. This means that a customer can be notified that they are approaching one of your retail locations, and you can entice them with events and coupons. If you need a customer to be in a particular location, for example at a particular gate n an airport, you can notify them that they are in the wrong place.

With location based services, Passbook enables companies to extend further their services into customers’ phones, providing them with better services and companies with greater efficiency.

Why now is the time to act

iOS 6 will be released in the fall/autumn of this year, probably around the end of September or the beginning of October. Now is the time to start planning for the integration of Passbook services. The companies that are the quickest to do so, will be able to adopt new customers and make a ‘land grab’ within their service area.

Now is the time to move quickly and take advantage of this unique opportunity to take a place in the wallet of the future and anchor your business services there.
